A recent social media post sparked an interesting discussion.
Several experienced beekeepers pointed out that if your goal is extracting a lot of honey, nothing beats a traditional extractor. They were absolutely right.
If you've got dozens of frames to process, extracting them all in one session is incredibly efficient. That's exactly what those systems were designed to do.
But as I read through the comments, it struck me that everyone was answering a question we were never trying to solve.
We weren't asking, "How do we extract 100 frames faster?"
We were asking something much simpler.
"Why do so many hobbyist beekeepers put off harvesting just one frame?"
That's a completely different problem.
Most hobbyist beekeepers don't own 50 hives. They have one. Maybe two. Perhaps five.
When a frame is ready, they have a decision to make.
Do they pull out the extractor? Set everything up? Uncap the comb, extract the honey, filter it, wash everything down and pack it all away?
Or do they simply leave the honey in the hive until there's "enough" to make it worthwhile?
For many people, they wait.
Not because they don't want the honey.
Because the effort outweighs the reward.
That's not a criticism of traditional extraction. It's simply human nature.
We all have tasks that get postponed because the preparation feels bigger than the job itself.
The interesting thing is that most conversations about honey extraction focus on speed.
How many frames per hour?
How much honey per minute?
How quickly can you empty a super?
But perhaps speed isn't the real measure.
Perhaps the better question is:
How much friction is there between you and fresh honey?
Because friction isn't just the extraction itself.
It's finding the equipment.
Setting it up.
Uncapping.
Filtering.
Cleaning.
Packing everything away.
For commercial operators, that's simply part of the workflow.
For many hobbyists, it's the reason they don't harvest today.
That's the problem we set out to solve with HiveKeepers.

In fact, I don't think the biggest competitor to HiveKeepers is the traditional extractor.
It's the sentence almost every hobbyist beekeeper has said at some point:
"I'll harvest next weekend."
